Helen Cosmetatos
Helen is the daughter of Spyros Kosmetatos and runs Gentilini retreat. For her it is not merely business - it is a way of life. She stays at Gentilini Retreat with her family. She loves nature and philosophy and speaks fluent English. The responsible development of Kefalonia.
The Kosmetatos family, accredited with the production of the exclusive Kefalonian Robola wine, has a long history on the island and are trying to preserve this history by contributing to the island. Spyros Kosmetatos returned to Kefalonia in 1978 after two years in South Africa at the Wine Institute of Stellenbosch.
It was there that he had the idea of cultivating Robola wine with high quality equipment and using his international exposure and knowledge of wine-making to promote Kefalonia's wine. Having done so, the family now exports the award-winning wines all over the world, including the UK, Germany, Japan and Canada.
The Kosmetatos family has also created a Botanical Garden in the capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli. The garden is open to the public and contains almost all the natural vegetation that can be found in Kefalonia.
Maria Anna Gentilini, the last of a great family who came to Kefalonia and lived there during the Venetian time, was the godmother of Mr. Spyros. The Kosmetatos family inherited all the properties of the prominent Gentilini family and preserved it in memory of the family who offered so much to Kefalonia.
Along with the Botanical Garden, the house of Gentilini was renovated and is now a private museum with furniture, paintings and books. It remains the most well-preserved building in Argostoli and was not destroyed in the 1953 earthquake.
