Evangelatos family
The Evangelatos family left Kefalonia during the difficult years of the 50s looking for better luck in Africa (Zaire) and Europe (Belgium). Four brothers of the family decided to return and do something together at their birthplace, to share their enthusiasm for it, and offer their hospitality to travellers. This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
The responsible development of Kefalonia.
The responsible development of Kefalonia.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The Evangelatos family returned home to Kefalonia after many years abroad in Zaire and Belgium, and decided to invest on the island in a sustainable way. They built this big hotel in a very beautiful, but at the time, undeveloped area.
Despite the size of the hotel the buildings, cannot be seen from the road as it is low built with plenty of trees and flowers around it. A biological sewage system was established, recycling the water used for watering the plants thus keeping the coast clean. Keeping the coast clean was a priority and they have been continuously involved in ensuring that all the other investors in the area keep the same standards. Their efforts have resulted in Xi Beach being a Blue Flag beach.
Guests who stay here choose to support an important cause for the local community. Apart from care for the environment, it also amounts to support of a number of families who work at the hotel.
